Women In Journalism Instagram Campaign

For my MA, I recently project managed an Instagram campaign for Women In Journalism UK that launched on International Women’s Day 2021. This campaign was created in order to highlight WiJ’s recent research into the lack of Black and POC bylines in UK newsrooms. This project was exciting and challenging, particularly since it was all remotely done during COVID-19 Lockdown.

As the project manager, I managed the schedule and assigned all deadlines, tasks, and next steps for the project. My goal was to make the project as seamless and easy as possible for the other teams, which I think was successful through being specific with tasks and spacing out the amount of work appropriately and kindly for my teammates. I was also responsible for communication with the client and interviewees. I was commended for my professionalism and ability to learn from feedback.

I also was in charge of packaging and sending the information to WiJ. I created a content master post that had all posts files, copy, alt text, and hashtags hyperlinked and ordered by day in one long document. I also separated everything into individual folders for weeks and days. This way WiJ could access the content in the way they saw fit.

This project allowed me to further sharpen my collaboration skills and learn how to navigate being a part of a successful virtual team. We are very proud of what we produced.

Commissioned illustrator Daniela Di Martino who we picked because of her fun style and her experience in depicting people of different backgrounds and ethnicities. We went with a color palette of different shades of purples, greens, and whites to reflect the suffragette’s colors (which are also WiJ brand colors).

Interviewed three BAME members of Women In Journalism in order to hear their stories about being a BAME woman in the industry, and what they thought of the research we were highlighting.
